( Random spoilers )
Moving on to book 6, "The Eye of the Bedlam Bride"! No future spoilers, please!
( Chapter 381: Trail of Fire )
“What’re you designing now?” Xander realizes, vaguely, that he must have been ignoring Krista for a while, but even with at least one Tony on lookout, sometimes it’s really, really hard to remember the outside world exists when he’s in the zone. Luckily, it doesn’t seem like she minds. She does drape herself across his lap in a pointed ‘you’re paying attention to me now’ way, but he doesn’t begrudge her that. Honestly, in his opinion she’s showing a lot of restraint. “...The Halo suit?”
As cool as it would be to actually design Mjolnir and as tempted as he is to actually take credit for that kind of feat, he can’t lie about it. “I mean, obviously not exactly. I’m not a genetically and otherwise modified supersoldier. Even with the magic, that only gets me so far when it comes to cheating.”
“Still cool.” The kiss is nice.
“That, I’ll grant you.” It’s still just in the design process. He’s looking forward to actually bringing this one to life.
I...for goodness sake, Demifiend, at least Phoenix only gets accused of murder, like, once every other game.
For Great Ace Attorney Chronicles, I just keep staring at MC and going “that’s Demifiend”
Without thinking, Saejima reaches out and touches one especially twisted scar. Goro hisses, and he pulls his hand back almost immediately, feeling like an unwanted intruder.
“Nah, anyone’s got a right ta touch, it’s ya.” Majima leans back in reach, deliberately ignoring any sensible self-preservation.
Cut sentence as things got shuffled and moving a whole lot faster than intended: Uhura agrees, and then at McCoy’s incredulous eyebrow she adds, “That’s a...future version of Spock, I think? From a timeline that no longer exists. He didn’t share too many of the details.”
Main Points:( 'hard to get' )
Content warning: This chapter gets a bit grim again; non-graphic discussion of offscreen suicide. If you need help, please seek it!
This chapter is simultaneously fairly close to what I had thought would happen, though the first conception had them all killing each other. Then only one twin was going to survive, but Desmond looked at the situation and went “nope, absolutely not, I have had it up to here and am not seeing any more death today” and used the Calculations to stabilize the male twin. Also, at one point they were all going to be actual tourists. (The mission does exist, but has been substantially expanded because it didn’t quite seem right to just find the artifact piece at the lighthouse.)
The last two chapter titles are a reference to one of the lines Montag says in canon: “It has been said there is a skeleton in every closet here in Innsmouth. That is simply not true. They were laid into the very foundation walls.” (Incidentally, this is very bad planning architecturally given normal organic decay unless you’re propping up your ghoulish occult structure with magic.)
There might still be some tonal whiplash, but at least it’s not as bad as if I didn’t split the chapters.
( Desmond has this )
( Chapter 380: Beginning of a Crimson Story )
Desmond’s moment of “I have lost control of the situation” was me looking at what I’d written and going “well, this wasn’t the plan...oh well, time to pivot”.
Like Leap of Faith, this got split from the next chapter for flow reasons, mostly tone.
